Authentic Storyteller

We are looking for a strategic, curious, creative and self-motivated writer who loves telling true stories. The candidate will be someone who not only knows where to find engaging stories, but is excited to seek out new ones and can see them anywhere. While the candidate must be competent in writing, he or she must also be eager to work with editors who will coach and empower them. 

The authentic storyteller will need to balance thinking journalistically and writing creatively. The candidate will be someone who has excellent soft skills, confidence in interviewing, is sensitive to hearing and respectfully telling personal stories, and able to find and aggregate content. 

The candidate should be a self-starter who feels confident about interviewing, storytelling, learning, and able to accept guidance and be teachable. The authentic storyteller will be expected to take ownership of assigned tasks, which requires the candidate to be self-disciplined and take initiative to identify and pursue stories.

This can be a remote-work position.

Responsibilities

  • Connecting with a variety of people
  • Conducting interviews on a regular basis
  • Creating multiple stories and content types from one interview
  • Aggregating content from multiple sources
  • Writing 
  • Self-editing content

Required Experience

  • Writing in a variety of content types
  • Self-editing (producing clean copy)
  • Reflective listening

  • Taking Initiative
  • Finding and pursuing stories independently, much like a journalist
  • Able to aggregate with excellence, taking care to assign attribution

Required Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills — must be able to produce 10-15, high quality stories per week
  • Ability to plan and conduct interviews that will generate multiple stories
  • Able to independently seek out potential content for REV and pitch story ideas
  • Proficient in AP or Chicago Style
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Must be teachable
  • Must be able to work with editors and receive constructive feedback
  • Must be technologically savvy, familiar with Google drive tools
  • Writing experience (available portfolio)
